Message from the President
To University Community:
Florida
International University's Alcohol & Drug-Free
Workplace & Campus Policy was promulgated
to comply with the Drug-Free Workplace Act adopted by Congress in 1988 and the
Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989, Public Law 101-226.
The regulations require publication of a policy statement notifying students and
employees of the University policy on alcohol and substance abuse.
Florida law prohibits the sale or distribution of illicit drugs within a
200-foot perimeter of the University property. University policy provides information
regarding the health risks associated with substance abuse; available drug and
alcohol counseling, treatment, or rehabilitation assistance; and the legal
sanctions, standards of conduct and penalties for violations.
I urge each of you to read this material carefully.
We are committed to providing an academic and workplace environment free of the illegal use and abuse of alcohol and the manufacture, sale, purchase, use, possession, or distribution of illicit drugs in and on FlU owned or controlled property. Your help is needed to ensure compliance with this policy. Students and employees with questions regarding the policy should contact any member of the Substance Abuse Taskforce. Individuals interested in counseling, treatment and rehabilitation assistance should contact the campus and community resources identified in the Florida International University Alcohol & Drug-Free Workplace & Campus Policy.
Modesto A. (Mitch) Maidique
President
