Ultraviolet (UV) Radiation
UV is optical radiation with wavelength between 100 and 400 nanometers (nm). The main source of UV radiation is the sun. Man-made sources of UV radiation are welding, lamps and light sources, video display terminals and tanning lamps/booths. Skin and eyes are the organs affected by exposure to UV radiation. Safety controls are required to protect researchers from overexposure.
Infrared Radiation
Infrared radiation (IR) is optical radiation with wavelength between 770 nm and 1 mm. IR radiation is invisible to humans. Damage to the eye part depends on the wavelength of radiation. Bioeffects on skin are skin burns and excessive dry skin. Safety controls are required to protect researchers from overexposure.
